Undergraduate Course Registration Information
Undergraduate Registration -- Spring 2009
Registration for Spring 2009 courses will begin for all matriculated, degree-seeking undergraduates (full and part time) on Monday, November 10, and will continue through Friday, November 21. Non-matriculated undergraduates (full and part time) may start registering for classes on Monday, November 24. The exact schedule for the two-week Advising and Registration period is sent to the "UGALL" listserv and is posted at the Registrar's Office when finalized. Registration priority will, as in the past, be determined by number of credits completed at the time of registration.
Spring 2009 Schedule:
The final Spring 2009 schedule may now be viewed on WebAdvisor. A list of Spring 2009 undergraduate courses is available in .pdf format (CLICK HERE), which is accurate as of the date on the header of the document. Changes are still possible, so please refer to WebAdvisor for the most current listings.
Non-Manhattanville students may view listings by selecting the "Prospective Students" link on the main page, and then selecting "Search for Sections" and completing the forms on the following screen.
To help in preparing your schedule, please review the following documents regarding general education requirements, Castle Scholars program courses, courses for interdisciplinary credit, and courses for the upper-level writing requirement.
Before Registration:
- Check for registration holds:
Students should check for registration holds on WebAdvisor by clicking on the "My Restrictions" link. Faculty advisors may also check for holds in WebAdvisor prior to advising their students (CLICK HERE for instructions). If you have an active hold, you will not be able to register until it is cleared, so make sure all holds are cleared in time to register when scheduled. - Get the correct form:
Whether registering in person or with your advisor, make sure you have the appropriate form to use as a planning tool. Please download a Full-Time Registration Form (CLICK HERE), or Part-Time Registration Form (CLICK HERE), depending on what your status will be for the Spring 2009 semester. - Get the appropriate approvals:
Your advisor's approval is needed for all registration activities, indicated either by his/her signature on your registration form, or by his/her entry of your courses into WebAdvisor. Additionally, some courses require the special approval of a department or instructor, or you might require approval from the department to register for a course for which you have not yet satisfied a prerequisite. In these cases, please print a Faculty Consent Form (CLICK HERE), which you should bring with you when you meet with the professor or the department chair for the appropriate approvals. Lists of courses requiring faculty permission or department approval can be found by selecting the appropriate links below:
Courses requiring the approval of the instructor include internships, independent studies, senior evaluations, and certain courses restricted to specific departments or programs (see the "print" schedule of classes for more information).
Courses requiring the approval of the department or program chair include all music lessons, performance projects and related courses (e.g., Stage Crew), School of Education courses (see below), Freshman Castle Scholars courses, and courses involving travel. - If you want to register for Education courses:
Students must see Associate Dean Joan Weinreich in the School of Education to register for all undergraduate Education courses. The exception to this policy is EDU 2000: Fundamentals of Schools and Teaching, for which any undergraduate with a 2.75 cumulative gpa is eligible. - If you want to register for your Senior Evaluation, or an Independent Study:
Please complete an Independent Study Form (CLICK HERE) or Senior Evaluation Form (CLICK HERE) with the faculty supervisor, and bring the form with you to the Registrar's Office (you must also list Independent Study or Senior Evaluation on your registration form with your advisor's signature when you register). Please note - all independent studies and senior evaluations conducted by part-time faculty must also be approved by the chair of that department in order to be processed.
At Registration:
- Know your limits:
Fullitme undergraduates MUST register for a minimum of 12 credits in order to maintain fulltime status. Fulltime undergraduates may not register for more than 19 credits (or 20.5 credits for declared Music majors) without the written approval of the Provost (the form for requesting overload approvals is available at the Registrar's Office). If permission is granted, students may register for additional courses starting Monday, November 24. - Have alternate classes:
If registering in person at the Registrar's Office, make sure to choose additional classes as alternates, in case you are closed out of any courses. You do not need to list multiple sections of the same course; if you are closed out of the section you wish to register for, we will see if any open sections will fit your schedule.
After you have registered:
- Confirm your schedule:
Once you have completed your registration, you may check your course schedule for Spring 2009 on WebAdvisor. If you believer there is an error, on your schedule, contact your advisor (if he/she registered you through the web) or the Registrar's Office (if you registered in person), and we will help you correct any problems. Please also remember to check WebAdvisor prior to the first day of classes to verify the exact classroom locations of your courses, which may change after you register. - Need to make any adjustments?
If you wish to make any changes to your schedule after your initial registration, you may do so with your advisor through WebAdvisor, or in person at the Registrar's Office. If coming to the Registrar's Office, please complete an Add/Drop Form (CLICK HERE) and have your advisor approve all changes. Please note: if you wish to register for a course on a pass/fail basis, you will need to "add" the course as a pass/fail course, and "drop" it as a letter grade course, using the Add/Drop process described above.
