Looking for information about a doctor?
The New York State Department of Health (DOH) maintains a website to provide consumers with information about the doctors they choose to treat themselves and their families. The physician’s profile website is located at
http://www.nydoctorprofile.com/
The website currently contains information on 84% of the approximate 74,000 active physicians now licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York. The DOH reports that they are updating the site regularly.
The site provides general information about physicians as well as information about physicians’ practices that was previously difficult to obtain. The website classifies doctor information into two categories:
1. Required Information
The physician profile page identifies the information that must be available on all doctors. This includes the doctor’s medical education, practice information such as translation and other services available at the doctor’s office, malpractice actions, a link to the NY Licensee Actions by the Office of Professional Medical Conduct to see any license actions that may have been taken against a doctor during the past 10 years, Out-of-State Actions, Current Limitations, Hospital Privilege Restrictions and Criminal Convictions.
2. Optional Information
This feature enables doctors to provide additional information about their practice, including the practice name, addresses and phone numbers of all offices, names of other doctors in the practice, professional and community service activities or awards, research papers or articles the doctor has published, health plans the doctor participates in, and a personal statement by the doctor about any information in the doctor’s profile.
There are several ways to search for information about a doctor, such as by name, location, and/or speciality.
