Developing Your 4-Year Action Plan

Freshman Year

Finding Out What Makes You Tick

• Meet new people on campus
• Attend the Club Fair first semester and join a Club that interests you
• Get to know staff and faculty
• Meet with your academic advisor to discuss academic planning
• Review the course catalogue and find courses that interest you
• Consider working at a part-time job, either on or off campus

Sophomore Year

Deciding on a Major and Exploring Career Fields

• Meet with academic advisor to discuss interests, strengths values and future academic planning
• Join a campus organization or community service project
• Attend Center for Career Development offerings to gain more information about career planning and careers in general
• Decide on your major through help from academic advising and career center.
• Consider Study Abroad Programs or Semester in NY City programs with Academic Advising
• Explore internship possibilities for summer with a career counselor
• Write a Resumé 
• Begin to conduct informational interviews to gain information about jobs and careers.

Junior Year

Gaining Experience for Your Future

• Meet with a career counselor to discuss tentative career plans
• Attend Internship and Career Fairs and career-related presentations 
• Find an internship that interests you
• Update your resumé 
• Continue to do informational interviews and shadowing
• Build strong relationships with faculty and staff to broaden your network
• Get information about graduate school if it is on the horizon and prepare for graduate school exams if you plan to attend directly after graduation
• Take a leadership role in an activity, organization or club

Senior Year

Taking Action and Getting Experience

• Meet with a career counselor to finalize your resumé for portfolio completion and further career planning
• Complete another internship or obtain part-time career-related work
• Attend Career Center programs 
• Prepare yourself for interviews through mock interviews and meeting with a career counselor
• Select people to use for professional references
• Network with anyone and everyone
• Begin planning graduate study or research employers
