Student Leadership Conference

3.10.08

Manhattanville College was represented for the first time at the fifth annual Center for Ethical Leadership’s Student Leadership Conference in Austin Texas.  Amanda Mink, David Bedard, Cristina Cordero and Kimberly Zinaman joined 200 other students from ten schools around the country to participate in the invitation only event.

The focus of the four day conference was to increase awareness of the importance of leadership skills, inspire young people to be strong leaders, and to allow students to network and learn from leadership mentors.

Craig Donnelly, Community Service Coordinator for the Duchesne Center, was responsible for selecting the students to represent Manhattanville.  “We were the first New York State school to attend the conference, and I think our student leaders did a great job,” said Craig.  “They worked in teams with students from other schools in workshops that involved things such as time management, motivation, cross cultural leadership, and achieving goals.”

The conference also boasts many well known guest speakers who have a successful background in a variety of leadership positions.

The Student Leadership Conference is held every spring semester.  If interested in attending, students are required to write an essay that discusses their leadership capabilities and why they should be chosen to attend the conference. Students who are selected are given a $1000.00 scholarship to pay for the conference fee, books/supplies, and food.
