Claude Heller spoke at Manhattanville
Ambassador to the UN from Mexico
10.29.2007
PURCHASE (October 29) -- In a detailed briefing, Claude Heller, Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations from Mexico, spoke at Manhattanville College about immigration issues, international policy and Mexico’s deep ties to the United States.
Mr. Heller elaborated on Mexico’s strong sense of identity and its traumatic relationship with other countries, including Spain. Contrary to many Americans’ belief, explained the Ambassador, Mexico is a very diverse country and a rich but unjust society.
“No country impacts Mexico like the United States,” said Mr. Heller. “Immigration is a problem on both sides.” He pointed out that until 9/11, Mexico was number one on the Bush administration’s agenda and that Mexico aims to “play a constructive role in international relations”.
Claude Heller’s appearance was part of Manhattanville’s Ambassador Lecture series. The series continues on November 15, when Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, Ambassador to the UN from Tanzania, will speak on that nation’s role in Africa and in the world.
