Backpack to Briefcase
On Tuesday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m., members of the Manhattanville College class of 2008 attended the first annual Backpack to Briefcase Independence Dinner. The purpose of this affair was to prepare seniors for life after graduation.
Prior to the meal, keynote speaker Lindsey Pollock, Yale University graduate and author of Getting from College to Career: 90 Things to Do Before You Join the Real World, provided valuable tips for post-baccalaureate success in a humorous, lighthearted speech.
After cake, coffee, and sangria, the event concluded with a career wardrobe fashion show and performance by the Manhattanville College Dance Troupe. In addition, raffle prizes such as gift certificates to Outback Steakhouse, Legal Sea Foods, Atlanta Bread, Applebee’s, Salon Maffei, Pro Nails, Tropical Lights Tanning, and Executive Billiards, were rewarded.
The following evening, from 5-7 p.m. in Reid Castle, undergraduates from every class participated in the Survival Fair. At this event, representatives from MasterCard Worldwide, Weichert Realtors, Wachovia Bank, CARTUS, and a psychotherapy practice presented informative workshops every half hour to teach students necessary skills to succeed in the working world. Some examples were “Making Your Credit Card Work for you” and “Finding a Place to Live in the Real World”.
This event was coordinated by the Office of Career Services and sponsored by Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Flik Catering Services, and Wachovia Bank.
