Dowd-O`Gorman Writing Center
The Dowd/O’Gorman Writing Center
It is generally acknowledged that, when people artistically explore their creativity, they are working close to their creative center. Writers who practice their craft in solitude need to balance this work by interacting with a community of like-minded individuals who support and encourage their work. The Dowd/O’Gorman Writing Center is the place where the writing community gathers at Manhattanville College.
The Center is the home office of Inkwell, Manhattanville’s nationally recognized literary journal. Students and alumni volunteer to help produce two extraordinary issues each year. This process not only teaches the skills necessary to produce a literary journal, but also helps them hone their critical reading skills—and strengthen their own writing.
The Center is the place where master classes in all genres, craft seminars and panels of agents/editors and small press editors are held.
The Center is where Manhattanville students and alums can conference on their creative works-in-progress.
The Center is where writing groups meet to critique each other’s work.
The Center is at the center of Manhattanville’s Master of Arts in Writing program.
