Forum for Childhood & Early Childhood Graduate Student Research

Forum Purpose

The purpose of the Forum for Childhood & Early Childhood Education Graduate Student Research is to promote opportunities for graduate students to engage in and become aware of current research issues in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Childhood Education (CE). 

The Forum provides presentations about research issues, provide hands-on support for sharing student research, and facilitate faculty/student research partnerships.  Once yearly the Forum will honor outstanding graduate student research with an award.

Graduate Research Award Overview

Students who have completed EDU 5226 Teacher as Researcher or EDU 5477 Research in Early Childhood Education may participate.  Students who earn a grade of A on their original research paper or article written within the context of EDU 5226 or EDU 5477 may submit their research paper or article for consideration for the Forum’s award the during the summer after taking the course. 

Papers must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) format for an article.  Please review the Publication Manual of the American Pychological Association (5th ed.) prior to submitting your paper.  The papers earning the highest honor designation will be announced by October 15th each year and the student’s original research will be published on the Manhattanville College SOE website.

Award Submission Procedures

The original paper/article should be submitted with a submission form signed by the student and the professor who supervised the writing of the paper.  The student must submit four copies of the paper and one electronic copy on disk or CD saved as a .pdf (Portable Document Format) or .rtf (Rich Text Format) file.

The required materials should be packaged and submitted to Mrs. Natalie Siano in the School of Education Main Office between August 1st-15th.  Submissions may be dropped off from 9:30 AM until 3:00 PM.  The Forum Committee will evaluate the submissions, their deliberations will be confidential, and their decisions final.  A paper may be submitted only once.

Forum Events

  • Spring 2007 - Five ECE and CE students presented their research at the NYS Association for the Education of Young Children Annual Conference in Rye, NY
  • April 3, 2008 - Dr. Aram DeKoven from SUNY Cortland will speak about research on drugs, risk, and dialog with children and implications for teacher researchers at 4:30 pm in the Current Periodicals Room of the Manhattanville Library.
