NY State Teaching Certification
Initial Certification
A student who completes a Manhattanville College approved teacher certification program is eligible for Initial certification from New York State (NYS) providing that the student has passed the LAST, ATS – W and the appropriate CST exams offered by New York State. This means that you can teach in NYS for 3 years.
Within that 3 year period the student must:
Professional Certification Requirements:
1. Complete a Master's Degree in a "functionally related area."
2. Work for at least two years as a teacher in an appropriate setting. A student with initial certification may receive professional certification by applying to the New York State Education Department.
If a student holds initial certification and is completing the requirements for professional certification through a Manhattanville College MAT or MPS program, the College will process the application for professional certification.
