The SHRM/Manhattanville Connection

We offer these courses in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  The PHR/SPHR and GPHR curricula, designed by subject matter experts, cover the 2009 HR Certification Institute Body of Knowledge and help develop specific competencies and decision-making skills.

The SHRM advantage

The Society for Human Resource Management is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, and more than 575 affiliated chapters in the United States. The SHRM Learning System is a proven way to stay up-to-date on HR practices and regulations, improving both effectiveness and productivity.  Visit www.shrm.org for more information about the Society.

The Manhattanville advantage

Manhattanville is noted for its graduate degree program in human resource management.  The school is centrally located and offers a convenient schedule in a campus atmosphere conducive to learning.  Besides the discipline and support of classroom sessions, a college-based course means a higher likelihood of company tuition reimbursement and helps learners consistently beat the national exam pass rates.

Certification Exam Information

The HR Certification Institute developed the PHR/SPHR/GPHR certifications and administers the tests.  The test items are held in strict security and are not made available to SHRM or any organization.  The SHRM Learning System and the SHRM Global Learning System do not “teach to the exam.”  SHRM Learning System teams developed their own activities and questions based on the HR Certification Institute test specifications, and while these may be similar to certification exam items, they are not exact matches.

Eligibility for HR Certification Institute exams and certification itself are independent of the Manhattanville course.

Fall 2009 Testing Locations and Dates

Due to the frequent changes in HR information, policies and regulations, it is recommended that participants take certification exams in the same year they complete the learning system course.

Certification examinations are computer-based and are conducted at the 250 Prometric Test Centers around the country.  Reservations should be made directly through Thomson Prometric after the HR Certification Institute has accepted your application.  For information on the exam and how to register, visit www.hrci.org.
