Paris Study Tour

Paris, City of Light
A Spring Break Cultural Study Tour
with the French and History Departments

During Spring Break 2007 (March 9-16), Professor Binita Mehta of the French Department and Professor Irene Whelan of the History Department led a cultural study tour to Paris, the City of Light.  In addition to visiting well-known Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tour, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Nôtre Dame, we conducted walking tours of old Paris, the Marais, including the Musée Carnavelet, L'île de la Cité and L'île Saint Louis, historic squares related to the French Revolution such as the Place de la Bastille and the Place de la Concorde. We also strolled down the Champs-Elysées, visited the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, walked through the neighborhood of Montmartre, where the Impressionist artists had their studios, and visited the Sacré-Coeur cathedral.  The trip included two half-day trips to Versailles, to visit the château of the Sun King Louis XIV, and Auvers-sur-Oise, where the Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh spent the last months of his life. During our leisure time, we explored other Parisian neighborhoods, museums, cafés, jazz clubs, and department stores.

This trip is offered for academic credit!  Students can sign up for a 3-credit course, FRN 2073 or HIS 2073.  We welcome Manhattanville students in good standing, faculty, students, and staff.

Paris Spring Break Study Tour will be offered every other year.
